Artist Statement

This mural was painted in collaboration with the community as a Family Paint Day, part of BeltLine Walls, Vol. 2 and festival on August 4, 2019 on the interim Northeast Trail where it passes under I-85.

This Family Paint Day, titled “Colours: Interactive Mural Experience on the Atlanta BeltLine,” was facilitated by ARTlanta Gallery featuring Shambe Badila as lead artist. People of all ages, especially the nearest neighbors, were invited to join us in the creation of a mural along the Atlanta BeltLine.

Family Paint Day is a component of BeltLine Walls and typically coincides with either the mural festival or construction projects along the trails. The BeltLine is for everyone, and we want all of our communities to have a hand in beautifying our shared spaces. Family Paint Days are often facilitated by local artists or an art organization.
