Artist Statement

This story is told through a combination of spoken word poetry and dance tied together with a theatrical production that depicts a scene in the Wizard of the Oz. There are three artists who are all faced by a unique challenge:

• Tin Man: a guitarist with no money

• The Scarecrow: a dancer with no creativity

• The Lion: a singer with stage fright

Each of these artists’ struggles is highlighted in a form of dance and with the help of the audience, the artist is able to confront and resolve each of these challenges. All of these artists meet each other on the Yellow Brick Road of the Atlanta BeltLine and are inspired by each other’s talent and ability to overcome their unique challenges. The coming together of these artists represents the empowerment of the community through the performing arts.
