Artist Statement

Within Earshot is an interactive sound installation that expands the territory of the space it occupies to anyone who can hear the sound of the eight bells that hang from the steel frame.

While the Atlanta BeltLine connects 45 different neighborhoods and provides a transportation route for cyclists and pedestrians, the nature of the closed loop creates a boundary and a new interior and exterior space. Sound is not restricted by lines on a map, architecture, or even our own feeble attempts to close it out with our hands over our ears. The space of sound is its own territory. The sound created by the bells creates a cacophony of noise that becomes part of the broader sonic environment.
