Close Knit is comprised of 22 objects with knitted and crocheted coverings that pay tribute to the historic 22-mile railroad corridor that circles downtown Atlanta and links the intown neighborhoods. The Knitterati’s theme is “wheels and being on the go.” Covered objects include: bicycles, a vaccum cleaner and a pram. The installations are functional without being disruptive, fitting into the existing urban/environmental landscape and bringing a stronger aesthetic appeal to the site.
The Knitterati is a fluid group of Atlantans who use knitting and crocheting as a delightful excuse to get together, catch up and enjoy food, drink and each other’s company. Knitterati participated in the 2011 and 2012 Art on the Atlanta BeltLine exhibitions.
